Suture Removed!!!

I went back to the periodontist yesterday for my suture removal.  I was glad to be going because it wasnt bleeding since the last suture done. The procedure took all of 20 minutes.  She took a look at the stitches mouth and said it looked like it was healing nicely and we could remove the suture now. She took a look at the gums and said everything looked amazing.  She cut off the end of the stitch  it hurt me a tiny bit cuz the inside dressing wasnt droped off, She removed the inner dressing and then carefully the suture. Suture removal didnt consume me much but later she did a tough cleaning and which has me shivering ( sensitive areas) and it wasn't fun really! So that's where things stand now.  I'm continuing with soft food, using the oral rinse and brushing my other teeth carefully, avoiding hot liquids and foods.  I go back in 4 weeks for my month checkup.  The periodontist said the gums should be attached by then and I may be able to eat something that requires me to bite into it by that time (but it could be a few more weeks after that depending on how things go) and given a class about the instructions i must follow..

A bit left to heal...!!!

Today, I went in early for my suture removal with my periodontist. I was scared that the gum dressing had fallen off and i reattached, (my dentist remembered me no problem if it fell off and its good not to reattach there, bcoz it may shake the stitched gum if i try to reattach) and bleeding was there two more days not heavy but like saliva secretion. suture removed with almost zero pain and my gum It almost looked so much like my original gums in color that I couldn't tell if it was the new gums or the old gums - not bad! But the tooth from where the blood had come the other day didnt heal properly. The wound was still opened and need some more time to heal perfectly. so my periodontist did stitch again on that gums only and again covered with dressing and given some more instructions to follow.

Day 3 Post Gum Flap session 2

And something happened last night.. I woke up accidentally around 1. 30 am approximately 2 hours after I had gone to bed. When i woke up my mouth was full of blood and clots. There was bloody drool on my pillow, but I dont remember accidentally touching or hitting my face last night it didnt hurt too. I looked in the mirror and my face has no bruise but it feels bruised and it's a little bit puffy. blood keeps coming again and again and the flow wasn't like saliva comes. i was about to rush my doctors for help but it was 2 10 am... How could i ring my docs at this time i was totally in tension. blood wasn't stopping too. Then i had the thought of doing a salt water wash so i took warm salt water and spit it off. i was not allowed to gargle. After a while blood flow went minimum like saliva and i again noticed the time was 3.20.I was pretty tired. stomach was cramping, feeling dizzy and was sweating uncontrollably. i checked my heart beat it was slow from regular. i count around 58 in one minute and i know minimum is 72. May be because of the tension i was going through. blood clots was still there popping out of my mouth and i was totally scared to touch it. my mom pulled one clot out  and it broke but still a big piece of it was hanging touching my lower lips. i tried to remove it but it hurt a tiny bit like a pin prick. so i kept that inside my mouth and again took salt water still blood was coming like saliva. i went to bed thinking that i'll swallow the blood henceforth.
And i slept till 9 30am and woke up with some small clots on mouth,. when i spat it was stained with blood and clot.I have to brush my teeth, but I'm a kind of nervous about it. I'm worried about seeing blood, cramping stomach and so it can hurt me badly i thought. I rinsed very gently with some water, was relieved to see no blood, and carefully began to gently brush any areas away from the gum flap site. When I was done with the top, did the same thing, being careful to avoid the wound area on the bottom. then the dressing cameout from the wound site and i saw blood on the last tooth where they did gum flap from right and it was coagulated where black marks of stitches are visible and i slowly removed the hanging clot of and it hurt a tiny bit. Then i decided to stick the dressing back so that i could hide the bare view of teeth and blood. i carefully did that and Rinse, with slight warm saline water.

Then i had coffee and oats porridge, had medicine, messaged(Just wanted to avoid talking)  my periodentist about the scenario and went back to bed to catch up some nice sleep..

Gum Flap Surgery- Session - 2

Yesterday, I ate a big breakfast before heading into my periodontist's office for the surgery. i reached there on time but the receptionist took more than 20 mins to check me in. i really hate the receptionists over there. They acts over smart and nut. my periodontist was there waiting for me. she said what we do first is to check whether the completed part is fully healed and suture removal and then only we are moving on to the other side. i saw a guy, a fresh face there and i thought he may be one from the hospital management group or a nurse/doctor and i thought my periodontist may introduce him. He was looking sad, extra terrestrial and trapped somewhere and doesn't know how to escape.

I kept my specs and earring on the table and sat in the dentist chair and was covered with protective bib and still he was there. If he is from the hospital team he should've left by now and a nurse no way... i remember my cousin sonu's words (who is a nurse) if female nurses are available then they wont appoint male nurses inside if the patient is female... so i asked who is that guy then my Periodontist replied he's a junior doctor, from chennai came here for a week just to monitor some cases and to study from it. i felt irritated and i said  i dont like any other one apart from my doctors are monitoring then Periodontist was about to ask him to move out i looked at him he was looking pathetic and like anytime he'll burst out to cry, i really don't like to hurt someone so i said, for this time its ok. he then stood behind periodontist hiding himself from me.

My Periodontist checked carefully the right section and informed me that it healed perfectly and now we can remove the suture. i got myself ready to bear the pain and i even imagined how it will be... a tread, going to pull out from the area where they did surgery and it will go through the inside of my flesh and it will be like wax removal or quick pin pricks??? i closed my eyes and held the armrest sooo tightly but nothing happened and i opened my eyes and saw keeping a tiny part of thread on the tray. i asked my periodontist how much time it will take totally to remove suture she said it's finished!!! i didnt even feel it!!! It was sooo far beyond my expectation anyways here, No pain means not no gain isnt it???

And then they again put Q-tips on my mouth, given local anesthesia all the procedures were repeated. i wanted to sleep like last time i did but now they were working on left section so i had to turn my face on right direction and saliva accumulated on left and it was like anytime ooze out even though occasionally they kept suction. This was the greatest discomfort i felt and then i noticed my periodontist was describing some areas to that junior dr who kept himself hidden behind my periodontist and his face pops out back and forth like flash door whenever my periodontist calls him to describe. And that was super funny... and i got some more ideas too from what she was talking so i decided not to sleep and to listen them carefully. I noticed instruments going to and from my mouth, and I noted that there was no blood on anything. I even notice some bloody gauzes coming from my mouth. They were all pale coloured. In between that she gave the suture removed teeth a good cleaning and it hurt me but it was ok kinda pain. It took around 75 minutes to finish the whole procedure. i was really bored and the accumulated saliva on the right side kept irritating me and i was helpless i wasn't allowed to talk and i pointed that nurse to put suction there and she did whenever i asked but still it was horrible.

After sewing my gums back together my periodontist declared that all the are procedures finished i jump out to the mirror to see whether any swelling is there cuz this time i felt more discomfort and more stitches were there since they had more tooth to work out. And i cleared some more doubts with her too... suddenly i felt my questions will be funny for them and what if she gets angry???  i scold myself to be calm but here i'm Lucky , my periodontist is an absolute sweetheart. she  helped me to figure out what was going to happen after this surgery and eased my worries about the swelling and the discomfort . She explained me how to handle the teeth which suture removed just now and explained the method of brushing and then they gave ice cubes covered inside gloves to keep that place. Swelling and pain would be there tomorrow, she remembered me even though it wasnt there on right side (a small bulge was there but hardly noticed)and then again explained me the do's and dont do's and reminded again not to talk much. And its time to go home and im visiting hospital in a week to get my stitches out....

I'm home now and I'm avoiding talking, but i felt tired of being silent for a long time and plus to that a heavy duty hard feeling of left. Saw movie 'Shaandhar' on laptop and it tempted me to laugh so switch on to 'The Others' my favorite horror movie (The first horror movie i watched when i was a little). I received whatsapp texts from my periodontist asking i how i feel now and she once again advised me to not to talk much(She knows i'm an ultra talkative) and sleep early.  i had medicine and slept as early i can(around 11pm).

Gum flap surgery- session 1

Splint fixing

I did fixed retainers/ splint thereon my bottom mid 4 incisors last Wednesday at my dentist's clinic, Now i don't need to use bottom retainers since they are transformed as fixed hehe... but i missed the lower one without that somewhere there is a definition missing so i worn bottom one too but i was strictly reminded not to use after gum flap...

Day before that, did some research on internet. Gum surgery poped up some results about gum grafting surgery and I read up on how different people's gum grafting experiences went and thoroughly scared myself. I even watched a Youtube video of an entire gum graft surgery. The donor tissue stuff was completley unknown to me cuz they didnt mention even a single word about it. I talked about this with my dentist and my instant reaction was that I didn't like the idea of having grafted the roof of my jaw with sharpened scalpel and making a channel of blood then the tissue be taken mercilessly and stitched to the lower part where the surgery going on. dentist said that a graft is an old idea and now the flap surgery is popular and they are planning to do periodontal flap surgery not graft surgery and they are inserting a bone powder not donor tissue inside which i dont even feel like something has done... its a minute kinda powder.... and later i found the bone powder is actually made from cadavers not artificial one(My dentist says there is so many substitute composites are there nowadays and not depending on corpses actually). and he added a balance has to be struck between educating yourself online (good) and scaring yourself half to death (bad).

My recommendation Don't watch the video if u are soo much worried of surgery and the procedures. if ur light hearted or sensitive you'll scare yourself silly and you might throw up a little. Else please do a research before getting ready for a surgery clarify your doubts with your doctor, you have the right to know what are they actually planning to do on your body... But not being a medico don't expect to digest all things but you will definitely understand the framework. The read-up on experiences are helpful, but ignore the horror stories. Most of them are outdated so the bad news won't apply to you. Look for the positive reports. Most people don't write about the smooth operations, but they are the more likely scenario. The same was true when I researched orthognathic surgery and nose, and mine went fine. It seems that few patients are motivated to write about their experience when the message is, "No problems, mate."

I clarified my doubts when i saw my dentist to fix splints. He opened a youtube video on his laptop, it was the actual surgery i mean gum flap surgery in detail and described all procedures.

Flap surgery- session 1

i reached along with my parents on time. Actually the date they shifted from 2 to 7th since there was a national strike announced on 2nd.

Dr Arunima welcomed me with her lovely smile and remembered me she's going to do right lower part today where i have lesser no of teeth(1 molar i extracted from there long ago) cuz Ganeshotsavam going on there so we need to finish it early before road get block. I sat in the dentist chair and gave my specs to the nurse(Rohini) to keep then they covered me with a protective bib The periodontist gave me the run down of what was going to happen and what I needed to know. then she took two big Q-tips and swabbed the areas that she was going to work on with numbing agent. i felt the needle going in even if there is no pain.

The periodontist and the nurse kept a conversation about random topics going and i felt sleepy i winked my eyes for sometime and im sure i dozed off keeping the mouth open. i came back to conscious when periodontist asked me to turn my face a bit for stitching. I was surprised when I saw a thread being pulled from my mouth. I didn't realize that the procedure was almost done and she was already sewing my gum. I found the long, black thread to be fascinating. It is not the dissolving kind so I need to go back for the stitches to be removed. and they finished off everything by covering the area with a gum plaster

Do's

  • Saline water wash 3 times.
  • Use mouth wash 2 times.
  • Be normal don't act like a big thing happened.
  • Do your usual routines. work/study everything.
  • Keep and take ice pack on ur cheek.

Don't Do's

  • Brushing is restricted to that affected area
  • Don't gargle just spit

Finally Dates came

Today i got the idea of what they actually mean by gum surgery. They gonna do it as 5 parts two upper and three lower at first they said lower 2 but later changed to 3. well 3 sections means one day left section  other day right section  and middle one any other day.Surgery will be done under local anesthesia and suggested for a splint/ fixed retainers on this lower mid section as those teeth has mobility so there are chances of tooth fall while they do surgery. We together decided the date and it is 2nd september.

Then My periodontist did a deep cleaning applying local anesthesia and i shivered when it touch numb area as usual cuz of reflex action. periodontist smiled and asked oopps sensitivity isnt it?? but the dental hygienist/nurse Rohini press my shoulder tight by taking precaution me not to move which i ever hated. i felt like she is acting like she'll do it forcefully if i say no... hmmmm i'm not seeing a deep cleaning for the first time and im sure my doctors  have no complaints regarding my co-operation....definitely!!!

Meeting Up with Periodontist

As my dentist Suggested i met Dr. Arunima, my Periodontist at Ananthapuri hospital today afternoon. i was informed to reach there around 1. 30 and i reached 15 mins late. my dentist was there and he assured me it would all go well.

Dr. Arunima called me around 3.30 and she did a quick checkup. She is soo lovely and sooo much friendly. I thank God for giving me this kinda doctors on my whole treatment journey apart from Dr Shivapriyan whom Dr Oommen kicked out (like odd man out) from my case. See i'm a patient and though my eyes, when a patient consult a doctor he will be with some problems, if a person doesn't have any problem then there is no question arises for meeting a doctor, so the doctor should have the capacity to care his patient not to be harsh so that the patient hate the idea of consulting him.

Dr Arunima Suggested for a gum flap surgery as my teeth's underlying bone and gum are weak. i didn't feel afraid but i was tensed just because i'm super tired of whole tooth business and i needed some rest. Then she did a quick deep cleaning and took some pics of my gums and suggested me to consult her after a week with blood results to decide surgery dates.

I was informed to collect my retainers today and i reached my dentist's clinic in the morning around 10AM. He explained about the do's and dont do's!!! the most funny thing was i feel super funny to talk wearing it... i had an outing with my family after and i think i dont need to tell how super funny it was.... when we cant talk properly we feel a kinda of uncontrollable urge to talk. I talked talked and talked and others looked at me with sympathy they may have thought i've stuttering problem and i enjoyed all of that. i even had cutlets with the retainers on which i was instructed not to:):)

Dr Jeomy took around one hour to polish my teeth when my braces were off. IT SMELLED HORRIBLE! Then I remembered I needed a retainer. He put a kind of clay(model wax i guess!!) on my top and bottom teeth and took it out to make my retainer. IT ALSO TASTED HORRIBLE! Im gonna get my retainer next week. MMM treatments all are somewhat over and i'm happy but again i remembered to consult a Gum specialist Dr Arunima for some gum treatment... May be cuz i've some gum infection.

2: Numbess: Partial numbess is there on left lower set of teeth. ( This numbness i donot want to go off just cuz i slowly started loving this inconvenience and can not think about a life without it)

3:chewing is still an odd sensation and a bit difficult with some foods

No pictures this time because I am half an year behind on posting it and soon my braces going to come off. So on the next post you'll get updated pictures as well as information. And that will be when my braces gets off.
